One Month!

Gary and I joke that Gary could just carry LJ around and call him Mini-me.

Not a great picture of me, but A picture, none-the-less.

LJ smiling up at his Daddy.

LJ telling Daddy how silly his bubba (Binx) is sneaking up on the elephant toy!

LJ and Daddy still checking out Binx.

I can't believe it's already been a month! Holy cow! LJ is really starting to notice the world around him now...most of the time with wonder and awe, and occasionally with sheer terror (but who can blame him?).

Binx has become VERY concerned about his baby bubba when he gets really upset. Binx just comes over, sniffs him, then with big eyes looks at me as if to say "Momma, why aren't you helping him?!" It's really cute.

Poor little guy...edited

Well, the poor little guy has a head cold already. I got one shortly after I had him, and apparently gave it to him. His nose has been so stuffy, and the aspirator only does so much. I have been using a saline spray, but it really doesn't seem to be doing a whole heck of a lot of good. Fortunately he's not running a fever or anything else at this point, he's just really congested in the head.

Edited part:

LJ absolutely cracks me up when he's looking at mobiles. Most of the time we have the ceiling fans on also, and he'll look at that ceiling fan in wonder, then look at the mobile in disappointment, then look over at me as if to say "Momma, this piddly mobile is NOT cutting it....make it go as fast as the fan, and THEN we'll have something...."

These are a few of my favorite things

I really think he looks like his Daddy in this picture.

This was a funny face that he's started making. It cracked us both up.

LJ has been a really good baby so far. Although he has started crying more than he used to, but he really never cried before, so ANY crying is more than I'm used to. All-in-all, he's doing very well. He's been pretty consistantly sleeping from about 9 or 10 until 3:30ish, then going back to sleep until 6:30 or 7. So I really can't complain too much about his routine.

Since I have several friends who are also expecting, I thought I'd list a few of my favorite things for their benefit.

1) Sling (http://www.starslings.com/) My friend, Stephanie, got me one of these, and I don't know how I'd get by without it. It frees up both of my hands to do chores, and LJ LOVES it.

2) Angelcare Deluxe baby monitor (http://www.amazon.com/B%C3%A9b%C3%A9Sounds-Angelcare%C2%AE-Deluxe-Movement-Monitor/dp/B000VS8WGA) This has a movement sensor, so I'm not constantly checking to see if he's breathing. DEFINATELY worth the money, in my opinion.

3) A bobby. Definately a lifesaver when starting out breastfeeding.

4) The diapers and wipes I posted a link to earlier.

5) Soothie pacifiers. It's shaped more like a bottle nipple, and is the only one LJ will take.

6) Lanolin and breast pads (if you plan to breast feed). Trust me, you'll need them! Also, Gary went by the natural food store and got some "Mother's Milk" tea for me (recommended by our pediatrician), and I'm not certain it didn't help my milk to come in sooner, so I'd recommend having some on hand.

These pictures are actually in reverse order. Gary, LJ and I went to the cabin on Saturday, the last picture (with my Dad) was taken out there. The first two pictures were taken last night. LJ didn't want to go to sleep so I gave him a bath...which he DID NOT like....but was okay after I snuggled him up good in a towel.

Poor Nala really feels like second banana because LJ takes so much of our time and attention. I really feel bad for my babies. Gary has done a good job playing with them and taking them outside, but they still don't (and can't) understand why I have to spend so much time with the baby.

Life with LJ....Day 12

Well, the first week was a pretty rough transition for me. Thank God Gary was here during it. Between feelings of having no clue what to do with this baby and crying over every little thing (I kid you not...I cried when I told Gary I needed to put the flea medicine on Binx and Nala!), I felt like I was loosing it! Finally I tossed most of the information that I've read about what newborns are "supposed to do" out the window, and decided to just let him make his own schedule, at least until he gets a bit older. That seems to work out MUCH better. Although he's really calling the shots, I actually feel like I'm much more in control than I was.

LJ went for his 2 week check-up today, and the pediatrician said he was a healthy, strong little man. He weighed 7 lbs 10 oz (gained 6 oz since birth), and is 1/2 inch longer (21 inches total). It was reassuring to me to have the doc say that he is healthy, etc. since I've felt I had no idea what I was doing.

Sorry for no pictures right now, we need to dump them off of the camera and onto the computer. Hopefully I'll get some posted soon.

Oh, for those of you wondering how the cloth diapers/wipes are working out. So far, I LOVE them. I absolutely adore the Bumgenius 3.0 diapers. They are FANTASTIC! I could go into more detail, but here's a link instead http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php check them out for yourself. I'll still use disposables when cloth is not feasible (on trips, etc), but mostly I use the cloth.
