Rearranging, organizing and an appointment

Okay, I promise I'll get a belly-shot posted as soon as we get the computer hooked back up at home (the one that has my picture software on it). We've been rearranging and organizing everything at the house. We moved Gary's weights into the sunroom, and are making his weight room into an office, then the office will become the baby's room. We got new carpet installed in the new office and baby's room yesterday and it looks fantastic. Both of us were dumbstruck when we finally got everything emptied out of the closets...we couldn't believe that all that stuff had actually fit in a couple of 5 x 2 spaces! I went to Wal-mart and bought a labeller, and now that I have one, I'm not certain how I've lived this long without it.

My dr. appointment today went fine, as best as I could tell. They did the screening for gestational diabetes today...so I guess if I don't hear anything in a day or two then all is well. The baby's heart sounded great and measurements were fine. The dr. didn't seem all that concerned about the hives when I mentioned them...she just said if it happened again to come in and let them have a look. Physically speaking, I'm still fairly comfortable, the only thing that bothers me at all is not being able to do what I want to when it comes to home improvement projects (oil-based paints/stains/varnishes, etc.). Oh, this was kind'a funny, I ran into a girl in the lab who I graduated high school with, Kristen. Turns out she's having a boy due on June 20th...I wonder if I'll see her when LJ is born?

Random Thoughts

Gary's been sick with the crud that's been going around, so today has been a take-it-easy day. Since it's raining cats and dogs and thundering/lightning outside anyway, that makes it pretty easy to do. I'm definately ready for spring to get here, and especially ready for this cold and flu season to take a hike. I'll take the allergies that come with springtime any day. The trees are getting impatient too. Almost all of them have huge buds on them that look like they could pop open any day...especially our pear tree.

We've been trying to get this house ready for the baby to get here, but I feel like everytime we get the opportunity to get something done something else that needs immediate attention comes along. Fortunately, Monday is a federal holiday, so I have the day off...maybe I can get something done then. We picked out the carpet we want to put down in both the office and in the nursery. It's really nothing special, but it will certainly look better than what's presently in there. I suppose that's at least a step in the right direction.

Anybody had any experience with painting over stained and sealed wood trim? I would usually say to do such a thing is a sin....so...okay, I'm going to sin. We're going to paint over the trim that is presently in the 2 rooms that we're recarpeting, and, of course being pregnant, I'm not supposed to paint. However, I know that latex paint is okay if used in a well ventilated area. I've always heard that the oil-based paints are the best for a job like that, but does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for a latex paint that is similarly "forgiving" (streaks go away)?

Thank you!

I really appreciate all of your responses. It makes me feel a lot better to know that I'm not the only person this has happened to. Benedryl seems to be what everyone recommends as a solution, and thank goodness it is safe to take during pregnancy. As Amanda suggested, I will mention this to the doctor when I go for my next appointment, but for the time being, I'll simply keep a stash of Benedryl with me and not worry too much about it. Baby LJ doesn't seem to have been affected by it at all, I think he was dancing to the country music I was listening to on my way to work this morning! If anyone has any further comments they wish to post regarding the issue, I'd love to hear them, so feel free!

Suggestions wanted....

Okay, over the past 3 years, I've had 3 different times that I'll just randomly start breaking out in hives. The first time it occured, I attributed it to an allergy to Tetracycline, after 3 months of the hives coming and going (usually in a matter of hours), they finally ceased. Then about a year and a half later they started up again, following the same pattern. This time I could not attribute it to anything I'd used/done/touched that was different (ruled out soap, shampoo, detergent, food, seasonal allergens...every external trigger I could think of). I concluded that it must be something like stress that was causing the breakouts, because the first time it happend was right after we'd bought our house and were moving, and the second time was when we were replacing the carpet with wood floor (that was very stressful for me). The second time, the hives came and went at random over a period of about 6 weeks...that was almost 9 months ago. So, yesterday, I all of a sudden start itching all over, and within minutes am broken out in hives from head to toe. Again, they were here and gone within about 3 hours after taking 2 benydryl. I have had the flu and I'm pregnant, so physically speaking, I guess I've been under stress, but emotionally or mentally, I haven't felt stressed at all (unlike the past 2 times). Has anyone ever had this happen or have any suggestions to what might be triggering this?????

Sick of being sick!

I thought that the immune system was supposed to be in over-drive while the body is pregnant? Apparently MY body missed the memo. I finally got over the sinus infection I got after we got home from the cruise, only to come down with either a bad cold or possibly a mild case of the flu, and I've been battling it since Tuesday. Complete with fever, chills, aches, stuffy/runny nose (that conveniently drained into my lungs)...the works! Hopefully Gary will be spared this one, but I think he'll be lucky if he is. As long as I don't overdo it, I seem to be feeling better (no fever, chills, aches), but the runny nose and chest congestion are still with me. I'm planning to continue to play it safe and stay home at least until Monday.

While I've been hesitant to take medicine while pregnant, and try to only take it when necessary (even though the dr. says it's fine), I've had to take what I feel like is a lot in order to keep my fever down and now to clear up the chest congestion (I've had pneumonia before, and it's absolutely NO fun). Baby LJ seems to be moving even more now than before I got sick, so I'm going to assume its had no effect on him.

While I've been nothing more than a lump on the couch that occasionally changes the channel on the TV, Gary has done a good job (actually exceptional job) of keeping the house clean for me. Which is a HUGE blessing! Anywho, hopefully Monday we'll find life back to "normal." Hopefully all of you reading this are in good health and you stay that way!!!
